LPN Nursing Schools

LPN nursing schools train you to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), also alternatively known as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). These are short-term courses that still allow you to work as a nurse, though you will have to work under the supervision of senior nurses, the Registered Nurses (RNs).

If you want to join an LPN nursing school, you should first know what their programs are like. A typical LPN course will extend between 1 and 2 years and it will be a mixture of theory and practical training. This course might award you different kinds of certification-you may get a certificate or an associate's degree or a diploma at the end of the course. Out of these the diploma and the certificate modes are the most popular. This is because these certifications are of more value if you plan to learn further and go for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.

There are various avenues where you can get your LPN certification from; i.e. there are different kinds of LPN nursing schools. These could be community or vocational schools, and some junior colleges, especially the technical ones, also provide these courses. You might also be able to learn for your LPN certification from a hospital that offers the respective training. Recently, there is a spurt of people learning to be LPNs over the Internet. The online classes are fast becoming a major source for getting LPN certification.

All these programs are different. They have different syllabi and durations and different number of hours of study included per week. Even the practical sessions can be highly different from one another. However, the basic subjects that are included in the syllabus remain the same, which typically are anatomy, basic patient care and pharmacology.

At the end of the course, whichever school, college or hospital you attend it from, there is a common examination that needs to be given. This examination is called as the NCLEX-PN examination and is meant for all people who are desirous of working as practical nurses. For getting a job as an LPN, you will need to have good ratings at this examination and you will also need to impress your interviewers at the potential place of employment.

The best part of LPN nursing schools is that most of them offer countrywide certification. If you pass your examination in any one state, regardless of which LPN nursing school you attended it from, your certification will be valid across all states in the country.
