Nurse Practitioner NP Programs

When you are working on obtaining your first degree in nursing, or your RN, you may or may not be thinking about furthering your education.  However, once you are out in the field working as an RN, you might find that you are now ready to shop around the different Nurse Practitioner NP Programs.

You will find that you can get your nurse practitioner license from many different types of Nurse Practitioner NP Programs.  Some of the programs are offered online and others still are offered at the various local colleges.  Either way, you will be bettering your career options by obtaining your NP license.

When you complete one of the Nurse Practitioner NP Programs, you become an advanced practice nurse.  You can get your license in a variety of settings including maternity nursing, emergency nursing, oncology and many other areas of expertise.

As a nurse who has graduated from one of the Nurse Practitioner NP Programs, you will be able to diagnose and treat chronic diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure.  You will be able to order, perform, and read diagnostic tests.  You will be able to prescribe medications for those patients who need them.

A minimum of a Master's Degree is necessary to become an NP.  You can also obtain your doctorate.  Advanced practice nurses first obtain their RN, and then you can take courses at a local community college, online, or through a university.  University courses are recommended because the university is the only place allowed to grant Master's and Doctorate degrees.

If you want to take your RN to a whole other level, obtaining your nurse practitioner's license is the way to go.  It will open up all sorts of doors to you that you didn't realize would open.  You will find that your nursing career is more fulfilling because of the amount of things you will be able to do as an NP.

Being an RN is very fulfilling.  Being an NP is even more so.  Do your research thoroughly before applying to a facility to obtain your NP.  Make sure your license will allow you to do whatever it is you are trying to accomplish.  Many online programs offer the NP license, but it may be limited to areas like teaching.  This is fine if this is what you are going for.  If you want more, do some searching around to find the right program for you.
