Pharmacy Technician Program

If you  have decided that working with medicine is something you want to do in the pharmacy setting, then you can easily be certified by attending and successfully completing a Pharmacy Technician Program. There are many ways to become a pharmacy technician and in most cases, there is a school near you that offers the proper training.

When looking into getting an education in this field, you will be required to attend courses anywhere from six months to two years. You will be responsible for learning a great deal of medical knowledge, customer service skills, and a lot about the pharmaceutical industry. You may be interested to know that you will most likely need some chemistry, pharmacy law, dosage practice and many other items that will be important if you plan on pursuing the career of a pharmacy technician.

If you decide to enter a degree program, you will be able to participate in a Pharmacy Technician Program externship. It is in this setting that you will be able to perform the duties pertaining to the knowledge that you acquired during the classroom portion of your training. The externship can take place in a retail pharmacy or hospital setting. This experience will give you an idea of what your job will be like when you are finished with your training. Many times a graduate of the pharmacy program will get a job at the place of their externship. This is very possible, as the mentoring pharmacist will teach you to do things they way he or she expects them and you will already be trained in what the pharmacy may be looking for in a technician.

If you decided to become a certified pharmacy technician, which is not mandatory in all states at this time, you can do so by taking an exam. When you pass the certification exam, you will be board certified as a pharmacy technician which will make you more desirable as a job candidate. Often times a pharmacy technician may use this training as a step to move towards becoming a licensed pharmacist.

In order to get started in a training program, you should check local colleges and see what programs are offered and the amount of time that is required for completion. There may be some financial aid assistance as well. This is something that you will have to look into when checking out the local schools.
