Diplomas are offered by hospitals and take around 3 years. After having completed any of the above programs you can also attend advanced practice nurse programs to specialize as a clinical nurse, a nurse practitioner, a nurse anesthetist etc.

There exist several excellent registered nurse jobs for qualified professionals and the career opportunities are also very good. That being said, the job profiles and the salaries vary from state to state. It is expected that there is going to be a 22% growth in employment opportunities for registered nurses from 2008 to 2018 and will be driven by technological advancements in health care and patient care industries. Also, senior care nursing opportunities are expected to increase due to an increase in the population of older people.

The average registered nurse salary is $74,000 as of 1st May 2010. However, the salary ranges from $114, 000 to $75,000 for a Critical care nurse or RN labor and delivery respectively. You must also take note of the fact that the median salaries for registered nurse jobs on a nationwide level are 14% higher than the median salaries for almost all jobs posted on a national level.
